2nd March
KH Saturday. First day of the Firebird dance festival in Knaresborough with our KH festival team. With classes still on in the studios it was an extra busy day.
Thank-you to all our amazing teaching staff and for all our cover teachers helping out whilst Miss Kyla and Miss Joanne were at the festival and Miss Angela was helping out in London . We wish Miss Nicky a speedy recovery as she was still too unwell to come in .
Our festival team had a wonderful afternoon performing , bringing home medals and making memories. Here’s a few pictures to enjoy
5th March
Wishing Samantha Raine former pupil and Patron of Kirkham Henry Youth Ballet all the best for tomorrow’s opening performance of Swan Lake with The Royal Ballet Company. As Senior Répétiteur Sam is responsible for coaching, staging and rehearsing the Corps de Ballet. She sent a fun message to our Silver Swans that she might need them to step in and cover. The ladies obligingly replied that of course they’ll be waiting for the call photo of Sam and the MD during Swan Lake on tour a few years ago.
7th March
Always ahead of the game - after a meeting this evening at the beautiful Danby Lodge National park centre- Kirkham Henry is thrilled to announce our new association with Forge , newly developed Youth Voice Pledges
A North Yorkshire's Cultural Education Partnership, supporting both children and young people to fulfill their creative and cultural lives, as well as supporting the sector/s who work alongside children and young people (both in and out of school). Thank you Miss Angela for going along to forge a link with this wonderful organisation. We at KH believe children and young people should be seen AND HEARD. 👏👏
10th March
And just like that another dance festival over with. What better way to spend a Mother’s Day than with all our KH families , enjoying the fun together. More medals and the day finished with the trophy presentation . Team KH getting great results again

16th March
KH Saturday with a difference- Tonight former pupil Scott Garnham ( Sisco entertainment) is producing the 10th Anniversary concert of Made in Dagenham at The iconic London Palladium. Featuring Pixie Lott , Killian Donnelly and Bonnie Langford. KH is also extremely proud that former pupil Hermione ( daughter of very proud KH Director Dan ) is also taking part with Guildford school of Acting ( GSA) Both attended KH Saturdays- Wishing the evening goes fabulously, Break a leg everyone from Team KH. Sunday Morning Smiles - Belatedly thanking YO1 radio for my interview with Jonathan Cowap ( who took the photo) To talk about KH and our hopes for the future. Jonathan was sympathetic about our plight to gain funds for the existing building or find a suitable premises which is more eco friendly. We are still waiting for news of merging with Friends of KH to become a Charitable Incorporated Organisation ( CiO) So we’re asking for you all to keep your eyes and ears open incase a more suitable premises comes available so we can turn it into a state of the art venue fit for our school and community hub.
( In 1991 when Jonathan was at Radio York he interviewed Sam age 11 about gaining a place at The Royal Ballet School. I still have the recording)

KH have many children , young people, adults and elders with a neurodivergent mind. Everybody’s brain works differently, so why should anyone with a labelled neurological condition feel different, if they were fully understood , wouldn’t they feel more included.
What is Neurodiversity Celebration Week?
Neurodiversity Celebration Week is a dedicated time to recognize and celebrate the neurodiverse community. This includes individuals with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, Tourette’s syndrome, and other neurological differences. The week aims to raise awareness about neurodiversity, promoting understanding and acceptance while challenging stereotypes and misconceptions. It’s a time for schools, workplaces, and communities to engage in activities that foster a more inclusive environment for all.

After the success of Made in Dagenham concert at the London Palladium, former pupil Scott Garnham shared his thoughts on the event.
I’ve honest no idea where to begin…
Last night myself and @sischofe (together @siscoents) produced ‘Made in Dagenham - The Musical’ in a special 10 year anniversary concert at a SOLD OUT @thelondonpalladium !! This was a passion project for me, having appeared in the original cast, and always felt the show deserved more.
We’re not sure how but we assembled the most incredible cast the West End could ever hope to see, and I literally can’t mention them all but I must give special praise to our leading lady @pixielott. I knew Pixie would be a truly great singer but nothing prepared me for her stunning ‘acting’ performance. Subtle, nuanced, funny, brave and heartfelt. A better leading lady you’d struggle to find. She hardly left the stage and learnt the entire show ‘OFF BOOK’ in just one week! Truly inspiring.
I can’t forget @thebonnielangford & @killiandonnelly1984 who instilled in the entire company the most incredible work ethic and professionalism. There’s a reason they are at the top of their game and have been for the longest time. Their incredible performances brought the house down but it’s off stage where their stars shine equally as bright. Thank you.

Here’s a lovely message from Eve
Hi guys it’s Eve! I’m currently in Sri Lanka, volunteering for two weeks! it’s so beautiful here- having the best time! I thought you might like to see some photos of the cultural dance activity this evening! Some Sri Lankan dancers came to the volunteer house to perform lots of traditional dances. They even got me and some others up to dance! It was so lovely to watch and they were wonderful! At the moment, I’m working mornings at a Turtle Sanctuary- where we feed the turtles, beach clean, collect sand to bury turtle eggs and collect seaweed to feed them. The turtles are absolutely adorable- baby ones, all the up to turtles 100+ years old- yesterday we even got to name one! Next week I’m moving onto the childcare project, looking after kids 3-5 years old. The country is so beautiful and everyone at the volunteer house is lovely. Sri Lankan people are so kind and I’ve made lots of friends!

KH Saturday-Huge thanks to Indi and Carrie for their help with the Easter Bunny and to everyone who donated or helped to our FUNdraising day in anyway shape or form.
Thank you, we’ll share how much we made when everything is added up. Happy Easter to you all. 🐣

At this time of year we at KH always think of the late Miss Jennie with extremely fond memories. In 1992 Miss Angela and Miss Jennie founded Ryedale Youth Theatre in memory of their dear friend June Veysey. As Professional Director/ choreographer and Musical Director they both volunteered their time for the youngsters of Ryedale for many years . May we wish Chloe, Cast, crew and creatives the very best for this years show The Wizard of Oz - Break a leg guys.

We are enormously proud to announce Miss Angela has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Dance 2024 Awards in the Dance for wellbeing category. A just announced statement from RAD -
RAD Awards 2024
We are proud to now announce the shortlist for the four RAD Teacher Awards! These exceptional teachers have been shortlisted in four categories in recognition of their contributions to dance teaching.
The Award winners will be announced at Members’ Day 2024 in a special ceremony hosted by Alexander Campbell, former Principal dancer of The Royal Ballet and the new RAD Artistic Director, and featuring special guest performances by choreographic sensation and Studio Wayne McGregor dancer Jordan James Bridge and Birmingham Royal Ballet!

On behalf of all the Directors of Kirkham Henry , We are thrilled to hear of your nomination Angela for RAD’s 2024 Teacher Awards, in the category of Dance for Well-being. This is so well deserved and it’s lovely to see all the dedicated work that you and your teaching colleagues continue to do for our community and the well-being dance classes and it’s getting recognised. Angela, you have always gone above and beyond to continue providing these classes despite having to work tirelessly looking for funding to help renovate and repair the building and changing facilities for our community, old and young and to make sure that dance for well being, recreation and vocational is accessible to all , no matter what !
We thank you, along with many and wish you the best of luck for the award ceremony at the Royal Academy of Dance, in London.
