A lovely day of IDTA exams today. First exams for some of our tiny tots and final exams for two of our senior girls.

Everyone looked gorgeous and our boys, handsome. Thankyou to parents, grandparents and carers for encouraging our youngsters and getting them exam ready today.

A special well done to our two senior girls Jess and Sophie who took their last exam (Advanced 1 ballet) here at Kirkham Henry before moving on to their next adventures in September.

As you can see from the last few pictures it gets a little hot after an hour and 15 mins of intense dancing in an exam. Great job everyone Well done️.

Congratulations to Miss Joanne for 20 years teaching at KH this month.

Jo started training at KH age 4 and after gaining a scholarship to what was Yorkshire Ballet Scholarship Centre and appearing in numerous professional productions at The Grand Opera House York, she realised her dream would be to teach dance to pass on her love of creative arts.

After assisting in classes and progressing to her own pupils, Jo passed her Associate teaching exam age 18 under the guidance of Miss Angela.

Jo has choreographed for MNMT panto and has trained pupils who have been successful in being awarded and nominated for scholarships and is presently head of our Makaton communications.

“ Teaching at KH has never felt like a “job”. It has always been my second home and family. I count myself extremely lucky to be doing what I love everyday with the best team & wonderful students.” Miss Joanne.

Jo is part of a team at KH who have never left or have gone away to perform or train and come back to continue their KH journey.

Here’s to many more happy, successful years at KH.

How proud are we at KH that our very own Scott Garnham (former pupil) will be performing with Jane McDonald.

Yorkshire’s Platinum Jubilee Concert will see a sea of red, white and blue take over Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Saturday June 4 – with Jane flying the flag for her beloved home county.
And concert organisers are delighted to confirm The Barricade Boys and La Voix will be performing alongside the Queen of Yorkshire on the night.

Starring past cast members from the global theatrical sensation that is Les Misérables, The Barricade Boys –Craig Mather, Kieran Brown, Scott Garnham and Simon Schofield – have entertained fans around the world since they formed in 2015.

Jane is promising a rousing night of pomp and pageantry at Scarborough OAT on Saturday June 4.

“What an occasion this is going to be,” said Jane. “It’s going to be amazing. A really rousing night, full of song. It will be a real sing-along event so bring your voices. I expect it’ll be emotional too, but above all else we’ll have a good old party."

“It’s a celebration of The Queen’s life, but also all our lives and life in general after the past couple of years. A celebration of life as we know it!”

Fabulous news Scott and your barricadeBoys.

Sunday morning smiles...

What a wonderful evening we had last night at Kirk Theatre Pickering. Our Dance Festival team performed for KH families, friends and locals. Huge thanks to Luke and Pickering musical society for front of house and backstage help. Massive thanks to our parents who support and encourage our children and young people as they can only perform with your commitment and time.

It goes without saying KH is a team and last night couldn’t have happened without Miss Kyla, Miss Joanne, Miss Rebecca and our chaperones volunteering their time.

For me it was so lovely being on that special stage again and I know a certain person who used to sit at the back of each venue to watch and support each KH pupil would have been as proud as I was of everyone. Congratulations all of you and once again Thank you.

Have a well earned rest over half term ready for intensive showcase rehearsals.

We raised £600 between the Theatre and KH.

Don’t forget all pupils are welcome to join the festival team, ask a teacher for more details. Happy Holidays Miss Angela x
