What's been happening at Kirkham Henry this month
SUNDAY EVENING SMILES

Miss Angela here, what a beautiful evening at former pupil Kirsty Pritchard’s wedding held at the stunning Newburgh priory Coxwold. It’s so wonderful to be invited to weddings of former pupils even though I can’t make them all. Here’s Kirsty and Eliza , Kirsty who attended The Royal Ballet school at eleven years old and later Royal Academy of Dance is now teaching dance throughout London. Eliza is now producing for BBC Bristol from Natural history to podcasts. I also had the privilege to cuddle baby George seen here with his Mummy Sarah who is currently on maternity leave from teaching. It was lovely catching up with the girls and former Mums of Kirsty’s KH family. I was exceptionally proud when Kirsty’s mum Ali even mentioned our KH motivational saying of the 3 D’s during her speech. Dedication, Determination and Discipline - Which leads me in to wishing everyone at KH a great new term. See some of you tomorrow

Dance for Parkinson’s and Stroke Class

Thank you everyone who has supported and encouraged us for our first Dance for Parkinson’s and Stroke class held at KH, we’ve had a wonderful response. Miss Angela, Miss Kyla would like to thank Fitzwilliam Estate for their help with parking spaces. NYCC for Stronger Communities grant. Also to Miss Joanne who covers and volunteers at York and now at KH , Miss Sophie who volunteers her time for our York Dance for Parkinson’s and Miss Evie who has volunteered her time for our new class here in Malton. As Fitzwilliam estate ( visit Malton ) stated in their kind tweet today ‘Arts for everyone’ We couldn’t be more proud of our inclusive philosophy. Watch this space for info on Dance for Dementia classes. Our classes are inclusive for anyone with neurological conditions do ask which class we recommend. All classes take place in our safe, supportive, non-judgemental environment.
Much of the developing interest in dance on the part of people living with Parkinson’s has been encouraged by the work of the Dance for Parkinson’s Network UK, now relaunched as the Dance for Parkinson’s Partnership (DfPP UK).
Where it all began...
Originally inspired and supported by the work of Mark Morris Dance Group’s Dance for PD® in Brooklyn, New York and driven forward by a committed group of individuals (Toby Beazley, Mel Brierley, Daphne Cushnie, Joanne Duff, Amanda Fogg, Dr Sara Houston, Dr Sophia Hulbert, Anna Leatherdale (as a representative of People Dancing), alongside English National Ballet and Pavilion Dance South West), the Network has played a key role in developing more opportunities for people with Parkinson’s to participate in dance. It was always committed to bringing this community together to share, exchange and develop good practice.

Pride of Malton & Norton Awards 2019!

We are bursting with pride yet again as it has just been announced that Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Community Interest Company has won The Pride of Malton and Norton awards 2019 Outstanding achievement award, which is so wonderful during our 30th anniversary year.
Congratulations to all our wonderful teachers who make KH what it is and without there’d be no KH, to our amazing pupils who make coming to teach a pure joy. Also to all our KH families for your continuous support and encouragement in our quest to be the best we can be. As an inclusive school where we strive for excellence and inclusivity in the performing arts, thank you each and everyone of you for keeping the ethos of KH secure for future generations. On another proud note Ben Greenhough who left us this summer to attend Arts Ed. London has been nominated for Bright young star, winner to be announced on the evening. If you’d like to join Team KH on Saturday 26th October to celebrate this achievement please let me know and we’ll draw out of a hat names if we’re allocated tickets less than numbers wishing to attend. Well done everyone and congratulations once again. Miss Angela

(Nell who finished the course in record time is our second champion fundraiser )
Here’s lots of great photos as the day was even more special as it was Tilly G’s 14th Birthday. Well done to everyone, we’ll let you know our total ASAP.
Let's Pretend!

Here’s our gorgeous let’s pretend class being simply themselves. I thought about the photograph/ quote I’ve seen previously and thought I’d put them together. Miss Joanne
Dance for Parkinson’s

What another fabulous Dance for Parkinson’s class today. Do come along to KH at 1pm on Tuesdays. Here’s our York class pretending they’re in the new Downton Abbey film in a horse and carriage. Great fun was had by all , its so lovely for husbands, wives, partners and friends to be able to enjoy themselves dancing together. Lots of giggles all round.
Joseph

Is this photo the very first ‘Joseph’ choir ?
We couldn’t resist popping this on tonight after coming across it in the office. All looking as fresh as a daisy. We worked out 20 of these now former pupils all went on to teach or perform in the performing arts industry.
Can you spot any KH teachers ? Who else can you see in the photograph ? Some are now bringing their own children to KH. Can anyone think what year it was?

The Nutcracker

Evening to you all . First rehearsal for Kirkham Henry Youth Ballet’s production of everyone’s favourite Christmas ballet, The Nutcracker. Good time had by everyone and these little mice and soldiers were very excited at trying on costumes.
Vintage Fashion Show

What a wonderful evening at the Vintage fashion show. So lovely to hear the stories behind the outfits. All on display tomorrow at St. Michaels church, do call in to see this collection from Victorian to 1990’s Thanks to our models who volunteered for this evening.
Kirkham Henry Saturdays!

Wow what a busy day of teachers covering each other !
First of all Miss Angela set up over at the Milton Rooms for the Rotary clubs Involve of many local community groups. Thanks to Nell for helping set up and Miss Kyla for the preparation. What a lovely idea where social enterprises and charities could network.
Miss Joanne running from KH to Milton Rooms to check on Miss Angela in between classes.
Miss Nicky leaving at lunch time to go and help with English Youth Ballet,
Thanks to Hermione for stepping in to take 2 singing classes until Miss Kyla could swap over from all her morning classes.
Miss Evie stayed for this afternoon for her rota teaching commercial and musical theatre
At least Miss Allison, Miss Emily, Miss Catherine and Miss Julie managed to remain in their studios and rooms to teach their Drama and music lessons .
Miss Angela dashed to York after her tap classes this afternoon to watch 11 of our pupils in English Youth ballets production of Swan Lake. Unfortunately Miss Catherine didn’t make it due to a family commitment.
Sunday Morning Smiles!

Congratulations to all our pupils who danced so beautifully in last Nights English Youth Ballet’s production of Swan Lake. I was very proud of you all both technically and artistically. Although a very different and confusing story, you all were true ambassadors for KH up there on The Grand Opera House Stage. Love Miss Angela x
Sunday Evening Smiles!

Thank you to everyone who supported the KH pupils by coming to watch or sending messages. They have had the most fantastic time rehearsing and performing and I am sure they will not forget it for a long time. The parents have loved watching them grow and develop and seeing their love of dance and performing. The mums who chaperoned have also been learning new skills, especially those of us who were working with groups we normally wouldn’t - girls instead of boys and young children who have never tied shoe ribbons or done their make up so needed more help than our older children who do their own! I think we will all miss it.
3 awards were handed out to the cast - a junior prize, a senior prize and then Miss Lewis, the director, has a special prize which is for someone who has really stood out for her during rehearsals and performances and we were all very proud when Lincoln was announced as Miss Lewis’ special prize winner. Congratulations Lincoln from all at KH.
