Here’s what Miss Evie has been getting up to during our summer break. Well done Miss Evie, keeping KH up to date with the latest moves❤️

________
Hi Everyone! 👋🏻

Miss Evie here, I hope you’ve all had a wonderful summer holidays! I’m looking forward to seeing you again soon.

I’ve had an extremely busy and exciting summer touring and performing as a backing dancer all over the UK at both lovely hotels and venues as well as lots of festivals! These have all been booked through an agency I work for, alongside teaching.

One of my particular favourite venues this summer was down at Somerset at ‘Somerock festival’ with nearly 10,000 attendees.

I’m certainly feeling super greatful that the entertainment industry has managed to get back on its feet and I’m well and truly fulfilling my goals again.

I’ll always encourage you lovely bunch to keep chasing your dreams and never give up despite its challenges!

Lots of love always x

Here’s another lovely update from a former pupil— Katy Holliday who graduated from uni this year. Well done KH from all at KH 😀
_______________
Hi Everyone,
Hope you’re all doing well, just writing a little update on what i’m doing since i’ve graduated.

So after the hardest, but most rewarding, three years of my life I’ve graduated with a BA Hons in Professional Dance! I could not of done it without the core training I learnt at Kirkham Henry so i’m forever grateful for that.

I’m currently working part time at The Little Gym in Windsor where I’m assisting in teaching classes to the children. When i’m not working, i’m training at classes in London and keeping myself fit.

I’ve been to a couple of auditions since I finished Creative which is super exciting & i’m glad I’ve got myself straight out into the industry. I’m also hoping to do a 4-week showgirl and burlesque course at the end of the year as being a showgirl or burlesque dancer is something I’m extremely interested in😊

I just want to thank everyone at KH again for providing me with the skills that I needed to get me through my degree and out into the industry
Lots of Love,
Katy x

How amazing to be recommended so highly that this young man travelled so far to work with you Audrie. Our pupils are so lucky to have the opportunity to work with you on a private lesson basis for exam or audition preparation.

From Audrie Woodhouse
Massive thanks to Kirkham Henry Performing Arts Community Interest Company for the studio space as Jack Bruce and I worked intensively on his audition preparation. As you can see, we explored a variety of techniques and disciplines and having this perfect space helped us along brilliantly. Jack travelled all the way from a fishing village near St Andrews so we made the most of every minute to perfect his acting skills.

What a fabulous jazz class taken by guest teacher and former pupil Lauren Hood.

Thank you Lauren for kindly stepping in and covering the class.

This groups routine was from The musical Newsies, it looked great everyone, well done 👏👏👏👏
11th September 2021
We did it, we got through our first KH Saturday, it’s been such a fabulous day.

Well done everyone from our tiny theatre tots to our fantastic seniors.

Our teachers were thrilled with our new little red group, in singing, Drama, Jazz, musical theatre and some even did ballet and tap.

Here’s a few photos of our day both at KH and Milton Rooms.

Sunday morning smiles... Miss Kyla here,

This week has been really special having everyone back together in the studios and it was our first time since February 2020 we had our Dancing with Parkinson’s back together in person. Our Parkinson dancers are so very creative and it doesn’t just stop with their dance classes.

Our York group have an art group and have this weekend had the Lord Mayor of York visit their special eco-sculptures themed around the Dance for Parkinson’s.

All made by themselves with recyclables. Really fabulous work.

Miss Angela and myself were invited guests to the celebratory mayors reception but sadly Miss Angela was still busy teaching so I went along to represent Kirkham Henry and our Dance for Parkinson’s classes.

It was a lovely afternoon and I managed to have a good chat with the mayor and his ‘chiefs’ . They were very interested in the benefits dance and music provide for the participants and were keen on promoting ‘social prescribing’and making it accessible to all.
16th September 2021
Here’s a lovely update from former pupil Megan Woollons who volunteered her time to help with our Dancing with Parkinson’s class (Malton branch).

Many of the class asked after Megan and were interested in how she was doing. Keep up the good work Megan from all at KH.

“I saw that the class started again yesterday, I’m so glad things are getting back to normal. I hope everyone is keeping well and despite the break haven’t forgotten how to tango.

I am starting my second year of physio next week and I’m very excited, I can’t believe I have done a year of study already. I am loving the course but it is hard work.

Before summer I was on placement in an elderly care ward where I was able to rehab many conditions including patients with Parkinson’s disease. I will have to come and visit at Christmas and share my new gained knowledge with everyone as well as coming for a cup of tea and a catch up.

I am also loving living in the city of Newcastle and despite the many lockdowns last year I have made the most amazing friends.

Thank you so much for asking after me it means a lot. Picture of me in my physiotherapy uniform, taken on the last day of my placement.

Sunday evening smiles-

What a wonderful evening last night at Bradford Alhambra watching former pupil, Beth Armstrong, in the fabulous musical Hairspray.

Please feel free to share photos.

Well done Beth you were truly amazing. Our first KH trip since the pandemic was a brilliant experience for all, thanks to Perry’s travel for safe coach travel.

Here’s to our next trip. ❤️
20th September 2021
Here’s an inspirational update from Danielle Brown. Assistant Children’s Director -Mary Poppins.

Yet another former pupil KH can be so proud of.

Hello all.

Hoping everything is well at Kirkham Henry and in life in general.

I am again contracted with “Mary Poppins” in London and we have now been back up and running for a little over a month.

It was an extremely hard slog to get the show back on it’s feet but the amazing creative team, theatre team, technical team, costume team ... basically all the teams ... and of course not forgetting the cast, pulled it off. The audiences have been so wonderful and responsive and we all feel incredibly lucky and grateful to be working again in our beautiful Prince Edward Theatre, soho.

This time around I have returned to the show in a slightly new capacity. As well as my Swing and Assistant Dance Captain responsibilities, I was also promoted to Assistant Children’s Director. It is such a rewarding position. I absolutely love being a part of the acting team and working so closely with the Janes and Michaels of the show. I have my fingers in many pies and it makes work even more fun and challenging- if slightly all-consuming and at times stressful.

Yesterday as a show we partook in the West End Live at Trafalgar Square. What a whirlwind but good fun. I have added a link to part of our performance. Yours truly was swinging for the event. Perhaps someone can find me on the video. A clue... my costume is rather bright.

Sending love and best wishes to all. If ever you find yourselves in London, do come along to the show. It’s really very good even if I do say so myself.

Much love and take care,
Danielle

Hairspray trips -

After enjoying our first theatre trip in many years last Saturday, it’s been pointed out how amazing it is for KH to have had three former pupils in the professional production of Hairspray the musical.

We started off by watching Laurie Scarth play the role of Tracy Turnblad alongside Michael Ball in the first UK tour.

Then to our excitement Lauren Hood was to play the role of Penny Pingleton.

Leading presently and the reason for our trip to Bradford Alhambra, Beth Armstrong playing the role of Tammy.

How incredible is that for KH , Malton, Ryedale and North Yorkshire. Doesn’t it speak out for the high standard of teaching at KH, together with the talent and dedication of Laurie, Lauren and Beth. ❤️
28th September 2021

How lovely to have some of our Dancing with Parkinson’s/Dementia members back with us today.

Singing and dancing away.

Spaces on Tuesdays at 1.30pm partners and carers welcome.
29th September 2021

We thought you’d all like to see a couple of photos of former pupil Saskia at the world premiere of The James Bond film, No Time To Die.

Here’s Sas, Miss Ali’s daughter and Miss Angela’s niece, on the Red Carpet with her young man Jordan and meeting Dame Judy Dench
(two Yorkshire lasses) 😀

We’re sure you had a great time Sas 💖
